Silicon is commonly found in sand, rocks, and minerals usually in the form of silicon dioxide (SiO2). Silicon is one of the essential materials in the semiconductor industry.

Given the abundance of silicon in the Earth’s crust, not only can it be safely supplied, it is also completely non-toxic and thus very environmentally friendly. Since silicon wafers have an energy gap of 1.2eV, they are able to function at relatively high temperatures (up to 200℃).

Silicon has found a wide variety of semiconductor applications, including memory, logic, and analog devices. These devices constitute indispensable components across all industries, from electronics, automotive, mechanical, and artificial satellites.
